As a Master’s student in the Couple & Family Therapy program at the University of Louisville, I practice as a counseling intern at various practicum sites. Learn more about my current placement.

  • Substack Newsletter

I started the Substack newsletter “Getting Granular” in 2025. It’s a creative essay project that explores the ways that literature, film, music, and art shed light on our common human experience.

  • ICF Professional Development Coaching

My gateway to therapy & counseling work was personal & professional development coaching. I still practice as an ICF-trained coach, and I still offer coaching engagements to a small handful of clients.

An entrepreneur never quite stops entrepreneur-ing. I consult, write, and edit for a small handful of clients from time to time. If you have a freelance opportunity you’re interested in discussing, reach out!

About Carlina

Hi! I’m Carlina, a writer, reader, thinker, freelancer, and therapist-in-training. I’m currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Couple & Family Therapy at the University of Louisville, where I’m studying systems therapy and building my therapy skills at practicum sites. I’m also serving as a Marketing Graduate Assistant in the Graduate School’s administrative office.

After experiencing the life-changing benefits of coaching & therapy in my own life, I felt a strong calling to pursue mental health training to support others in discovering more resilience, well-being, and self-acceptance. I hope to become a compassionate, systemic therapist who empowers others to reframe their personal narratives so that they can live with more self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-understanding, as well as more connection & intimacy in their most important relationships.

Prior to pursuing this path, I earned my bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Journalism from Ball State University in 2019. After graduation, I worked in corporate communication for 4 years, then struck out on my own and freelanced for 2 years. While I’ve shifted fields, I picked up a variety of valuable skills during that time period, and I continue to occasionally work on freelance projects.

Outside of work, I maintain my own creative writing practice through the newsletter “Getting Granular.” When I’m not writing, reading, or organizing data for fun, I can usually be found wandering around the local bookstore, drinking Earl Grey tea at my desk, or out on my daily walk.
